Custom Playing Cards
This was also to commemorate my wedding! 🤵🏻♂️👰🏻♀️
I made custom playing cards using the design from my last post as the back of all the cards.
I drew portraits of my husband and I as the king & queen, and then just recoloured them based on the suit.
The hardest part of this step was getting the portraits to look like us but not be ~ too ~ detailed.
One of my favourite parts was incorporating portraits of our parent’s and my sister’s pets as our jacks.
We landed on having one joker to represent where my husband was born, and the other to represent where I was born. It was a nice little touch, and also a nice conversation piece for people who didn’t know I wasn’t born in Canada.
This shows a selection of the numbered cards in our custom deck! There’s 10 cards of each of the four colours we chose.
I almost gave up on this gargantuan project multiple times!! I initially started with another theme that I trashed because it wasn’t working the way I wanted. Then I spent countless hours looking online at other playing card designs both new and old, watching videos of other people doing the same thing, and even taking an online class before I finally figured out my next steps. Then after hours of sketching and planning, I was able to make the set you see across these slides.
Although the process was frustrating at times, nothing can compare to how I felt when my brand-new custom cards showed up at my door ready to be played with! 🃏🥰
Once again, I’d love to have the opportunity to work on another custom card deck. So if you are interested, please contact me to discuss options! (either via email, Instagram, or the ‘contact me’ section)
